At the ROOTED Summit 2026: A Texas Summit on Falls Prevention, Caregiving & Living Well at Home, the Walk It Forward Foundation received special recognition for its commitment to improving mobility, independence, and quality of life in the community. Founder Austin John Jones was presented with the 2026 NextGen In Aging Award by the Area Agency on Aging of Tarrant County, part of United Way of Tarrant County, recognizing his leadership and the Foundation’s work helping individuals in need gain access to mobility equipment. The honor reflects the spirit captured on the award: “Leading with Vision. Serving with Purpose. Creating Impact.” ROOTED 2026 brought together professionals, caregivers, community organizations, and advocates from across Texas focused on helping older adults remain safe, independent, and connected at home.

At a recent event with our partner Reach Fort Worth, I shared how the Walk It Forward Foundation began. It all started with a bunch of ideas bouncing around in my head until I finally talked with my parent and we all agreed, “We’ve got to do this.” From there, we started building the foundation step by step, from defining our mission to organizing our first outreach efforts. Balancing school and running the foundation takes focus, but I’ve learned to manage my time and lean on the team. As I look ahead to college, I’m excited to keep growing the foundation and empowering others to walk it forward with us.
